Red, White, and Blue for You

There is nothing that quite says summer like wearing red, white, and blue.  Depending on how the colors are worn, visions of the high seas or love of country or fun in the summertime can call be created in a single outfit simply by adding or subtracting one of the three colors.  To create a nautical feel, use primarily blue and white.  To change the look, add some red to it and suddenly you are ready for the fourth of July and any Olympic festivities.  If a relaxed summertime vibe is the goal, red and white or blue and white are classic combinations.  Again, add the missing third color (either blue or red) to the ensemble and, voila, an instant patriotic look is achieved.  The combinations are endless!

Author’s note:  While putting together this post, I ended up on the Dillard’s site and was most impressed with their online selection.  I have discovered a new go-to site for online shopping.  Also, I inadvertently picked all products by Ralph Lauren, but then again, there are few designers who do classic red, white, and blue as well as he does :)

Ralph Lauren offers another great top in this bold red and white striped tank.  It looks summertime elegant when worn with a white skirt and classically casual when paired with white jeans or slacks.

Lauren by Ralph Lauren “Prya” Non-Iron Shirt

There is nothing like a classic white shirt!  Add blue and red scarves tied around the neck and a Grace Kelly look is revisited.  The faux mother-of-pearl buttons complete the timeless styling.

Lauren by Ralph Lauren Benny Cuffed Boatneck Striped Tee

The stripes and the boatneck are reminiscent of Jackie Kennedy, a woman who understood classic dressing like few others .  Although the picture shows the tee in black and white, it is available in several colors including the all important summer combination of navy and white.

Classically Red,White, and Blue

Wearing red, white, and blue can be a tricky thing.  If not done correctly, one risks the dreaded “Christmas sweater” effect.  However, when used in moderation, as the following classic women illustrate, patriotism makes quite the summer fashion statement.

Jackie’s blue and white striped shirt paired with white slacks is a classic understated look.  Notice how she completes the red, white, and blue look by adding a watch with its colorful band.  Interestingly, Jackie designed the watch, known as the American Flag Watch, during her brother-in-law Robert Kennedy’s presidential campaign. The watch was issued to all of the campaign staff and was used as identification as well as a show of patriotism.
