Whether it is in this year’s Gatsby-inspired Spring collections of Ralph Lauren and Gucci or in Dior’s nod to the 50s for this coming Fall, one thing stands out — a return to elegance is in the air. Hats, purses, gloves …. they have been popping up everywhere on the runway adding just the right finishing touch to complete a look. How reminiscent of the 20s and 30s when women were not considered properly dressed if they were not wearing a hat, a pair of gloves and a handbag! In fact, accessories were once so important to a woman’s attire that catalog companies such as Sears and Roebuck sold accessory packages for their dresses. Once again, designers are putting forth feminine looks that are both classy and classic, and, once again, they are showing how truly elegant an outfit can be when a hat or a pair of gloves is added to it.
