Classic Wedding Gowns (Part 2)

Queen Rania

It was love at first sight.  The 22-year-old Apple computer employee caught the eye of a very handsome young man at a dinner party.  It just so happened that the young man was the eldest son of Jordan’s King Hussein. Although their backgrounds may have been totally different, Prince Abdullah was quite smitten with Rania al Yassin, the daughter of a middle-class Palestinian doctor’s family.

Even though Abdullah was not in line for the throne, that position was held by his father’s brother, Prince Hassan, their 1993 wedding was a grand state occasion and Rania looked every inch the queen she would one day become in her Bruce Oldfield gown.  The gold-embroidered two piece outfit consisted of a short-sleeved jacket and a silk gown.  The young girls who served as attendants wore puff-sleeve dresses in a peachy gold hue and carried small bouquets of white and yellow flowers tied with yellow bows. Each girl wore a white hairband with flowers fastened at each end. Several young boys, dressed in sailor suits, served as the couple’s pages.

When Ivanka Trump walked down the aisle to marry Jared Kushner she wore a Grace Kelly inspired couture gown by Vera Wang.  Fashioned from three different tiers of hand-appliquéd lace in different shades of ivory, the gown epitomized the very essence of classic elegance.  Even the  $200,000 worth of platinum and diamond jewelry — a hairpiece, a pair of earrings, and a bracelet– from her personal line, Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry, did not take attention away from her gown. Ivanka’s choices simply and beautifully complemented her total look. Her bridesmaids wore dusty-lavendar gowns by Carolina Herrera.

Ivanka created custom “Ivanka and Jared — what a pair” Havaianas flip-flops for all of her guests and Swarovski crystal versions for her bridesmaids and mom Ivana.

Lauren Bush

Talk about creating a “wedding experience” for your guests!   When Lauren Bush (niece of former President George W. Bush and granddaughter of former Present George H.W. Bush) married David Lauren (son of fashion designer Ralph Lauren) last year at his family’s 17,000-acre Double RL ranch in Ridgway, Colorado, the 200 guests got into the “Western” mood by being transported to  the annual Labor Day rodeo at Ridgway’s Ouray County Fairgrounds the day before the ceremony as well as having access to a baseball diamond constructed on the ranch for Saturday-afternoon sports and a Tex-Mex-style rehearsal dinner that evening.

Bush’s gown was designed by her father-in-law Ralph Lauren. The long-sleeved embellished gown with tulle, lace and crystals had a high necked-collar with puffed sleeves and a large open  back. The top layer of the dress fashioned from antique ivory tulle and was hand-embroidered with delicate small floral motifs and a Renaissance-era scroll design in ivory silk and metallic thread, Swarovski Elements crystals, and off-white pearl beads. In keeping with the rustic theme, the bride and her five bridesmaids — who were dressed in white linen blouses, vests, and vintage prairie skirts — all wore cowboy boots.
