I’m not sure what fascinates me more — clothing design or interior decorating. They actually go hand-in-hand — they both share the simple desire to surround ourselves with beauty. This week, perhaps due to Ralph Lauren’s fabulous Fall Collection inspired by the English countryside and the Jil Sander’s Collection showcasing all those marvelous shades of pink for fall, I find myself wanting to be surrounded by the country cottage look. A look that is a relaxed, yet romantic and inspired by the colors found in nature — soft pinks, pale blues, shades of green, sprinkled with bits of sunshine yellow. The country cottage look brings the outdoors inside by using fresh floral arrangements, botanical prints, distressed garden furniture, light and airy window treatments, and lots of fabric. Together, the individual design elements form one cohesive look — country elegance.
