A Classic Woman’s Guide to Spring 2012 Footwear

With spring around the corner, the classic woman takes her cue from the latest trends to update her wardrobe by incorporating them into her personal style.  She chooses her accessories wisely so they accentuate her assets while never dominating her look.  The Spring /Summer 2012 collections with their emphasis on being “feminine” and “glamorous”  provide the perfect accents for the classic woman.

For the classic woman who does not mind drawing attention to her legs, she has several options.  This season’s high heel is higher than ever and boasts sexy pointed toes.  For more casual occasions where comfort is the motto of the day, the flat espadrille is eagerly waiting to become Cinderella’s new daytime slipper.  Also, the basic flat is back in a big way. For those in-between moments, the loafer has reinvented itself as a fun, unpredictable shoe.  Regardless of the heel height or lack thereof, this season is all about the details: bows, buckles, jewels, metallics, shiny fabrics, rivets, and lacing.  When it comes to color, everything goes — brights to pastels.  However, the nude shoe continues to maintain its foothold (excuse the pun) as a fashion staple.  Not only does the nude color make the perfect “go with anything” shoe, but, as models have known for years, it elongates the leg.   Although the wedge, the bootie and the gladiator are also popular this Spring, the classic woman avoids them as they are too overtly trendy.  She prefers a shoe that quietly commands attention, like the platform heal, not one that steals the show.
