The Duchess and the New “It” Bags

Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy carried their Hermes’ handbags. In fact, when Kelly was photographed with her handbag while announcing her engagement to Prince Rainier, Hermes immediately experienced such an increase in orders that there was a six-month wait for the bag.   Thus began the love affair of the public for any handbag carried by a major celebrity.  Today, the names and the brands have changed, but women still seek out the latest “It” bag.  Thanks to celebrities like Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, the new generation of must-have bags range from mid-priced totes to high-end luxury handbags.  There is something for everyone … even if it’s only on a wishlist.

4.  Perhaps in a simple twist of fate, Kate has been seen carrying Tod’s “D-Bag” which is named after her husband’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales.  The classic leather tote was a favorite of Diana’s which led the Italian accessories label to rename the bag after her death.   Over the years the bag has since been reworked to appeal to a new generation of women, but still carries the hallmarks of the original design. In addition to Kate, Kate Bosworth and Nicole Kidman have also been bitten by the Tod’s “D-Bag” bug.  It currently comes in a number of colors for spring/summer 2012 and retails for about $1850.00.
